FEATURED VIDEO 01: 04:23. Spiritual Music on Fretless Guitar: Fretless Spiritual Music 1: This recording is a guitar improvisation in which the melodies and rhythms were accidental. The music was played on a classical fretless guitar. I wanted to create something different, for your interest and consideration. Much conventional, modern: music has a particular structure in the composition. I want to break away from that, and make music that is unconventional. I am tired of music programming: FM Broadcast, internet streaming, music playlist, portable devices, record vinyl, cd collections, live performances, etc. These medias are everything that a person would expect them to be. Many times, the notes are exact and perfect. I want to try something else: I want to practice to play Hindu devotional, and Middle Eastern music on this fretless instrument (Middle Eastern music will require a lot of work, and listening). The idea is: that there is freedom to go in between the notes with microtones. It is sort of like having a guitar, with the neck of a cello attached to it. The noise that it makes can be potentially divine to the ear. Thank you for your interest and consideration. jgd VIDEO 02: 04:03. Just Fooling Around: This song is about friendships. More meaning: I created this song: I was a teenager, who was just starting high school. It is about relationships, inspiration, and being happy. This song was written, 1975, and this version was recorded for the second time in 2010. Special thanks to Dave, for his work on percussion. I hope that you enjoy this a/v work. VIDEO 03: 05:16. A Prayer: Art is an excellent way to express one's feelings. What I cannot say in words, I communicate with music. This work is mostly about the past. I wrote it when I was 15. It is also in my thoughts now, since it was more recently rearranged and recomposed (2010). This song is about the limitations of time. I remember the days in high school (written 1975), when we played this song, and other ones, for young people, in neighboring schools. In 2009, I joined the Satsang, playing Sanskrit Bhajans at the Art of Living, European International Center, Bad Antogast, Germany. This fantastic experience inspired me to create this version, recorded in one take. Jai GuruDeva.

How to Express: Words are the limitation for me. The words themselves, as communicated by normal means, are not so effective. This is especially true about the written word, and less so about the spoken word. Three dimensional communications are the most effective: multi-dimensional vs. linear. Ideas come about when all of the audiovisual elements come together. This may or may not be intentional. Words can become less important than how they are said, or presented. Effectiveness of what is said is less about the words themselves; it is about their transmission, and how they are received. The words are limitations in themselves. The exchange of words is done in a way that people know and expect. As a result, there is boredom, and lack of interest. Art is the invention that makes what we want to say, more effective. Words are not about what we want to say. They are about whether we want to say something, or nothing at all. Everything happens in the present moment. It is best not to obsess the past, or future. My art is about being ok now. This is something that I learned from spiritual practice. I am surprised to think that I learned something. It comes to me when I thought that I forgot about it. The knowledge just appears, as if in a state of meditation. Some people say that creative work is like connecting to the divine. There is no particular meaning in my work. You decide. Creating is automatic for me. All the steps are there: all the way to the finished piece. I put my mind, heart, and soul in the process. It is for the Spirit, Guru, or God within. We are inundated with text, sounds, and pictures. Most of it is for the selling of products and services. You want to buy everything. Maybe you do not, but somehow you are convinced to buy. Advertisers use all means to sell their products to you. Art can be the same. Most artwork is made to sell. Perhaps the contents have more meaning than some product. Perhaps, the meaning gives it significant value.

Thinking About Art: Art aesthetics are not the only thing. How does one measure this? I do not know how people will be affected by my art. I guess that it has to somehow strike a chord in them. This is especially true if they want to hang it in their house. I always thought that it is easier to sell an artwork to someone who has a lot of wall space. The exploration happens right in front of the viewer. They see the work there, and they have some kind of response. Maybe they do not even notice the experience that they are having. Art is repetitive, and is there a possibility for something new? This newness is fresh, and big, and shows a fullness. As you look, your heart beats strong in your chest. Is this why people are in the art business? I understand what art is. I can see it, and hear it, with my ears and eyes. I have no need to construct art, all of the time. Art is like breathing, and so I look and see whatever is there. The gold is the knowledge and wisdom gained from the practice. Art is grace. Art is of wonder. Art is giving. Art is life. I am grateful for my ability to make objects of art. Art is self-indulgent. I hope that you like it, but I am not in control of that. Academic Art Study by: David Rapoport: 2025_03_24. Jgd.
