| 2025. Robotics (1981), Pen on Paper (scan), 8.5x11 in. by: David Rapoport. Artwork from memory: a prototype of a robot. It was created mostly for parties and entertainment. The entertainer held a remote control, and the robot went forward, backward, and around in circles: on its wheels. The eyes lit up, and the sound came out of the speakers. The head went from side to side: and around in both directions. This was state of the art for 1981.
2025. Photo: Quansheng UV-K5(8) K6: Handy Talkie for Ham Radio: Archival Inkjet Print: 5x10 inches, by: David Rapoport. At this moment, I am listening to FM broadcast: 101.1 mhz: CBS FM. I can contact other ham radio operators on 2 meters, and 440 mhz bands, via repeaters mostly. Distance is a few miles, or much more. This is my favorite radio, because it is compact. I spend a lot of time listening. To transmit with this device, one must have a license.
2025. Photo: My Old Flip Phone: Sonim Xp3 Plus, 7x10 in., by: David Rapoport. Dumb Phone offers stress-free telecommunications: talk and minimal text. Some carriers still have plans for talk and text only. The idea is that less can be more. I learned that there are less problems without internet. However, you have to buy a train ticket at the window, and there is no streaming audio or video. Since texting is limited, you have to actually talk to someone. The magic of this is how the communication can potentially affect a room full of people.
2025. Photograph of Fretless Classical Guitar, Archival Inkjet Print, 10x6 in. by: David Rapoport. Fretless Guitar: It is like playing a completely different instrument. It makes guitar sounds, and other. There are notes, and those in between. The idea is to utilize acoustic music: to heal, to reduce stress, and feel stronger in the heart center. This is accomplished just by listening to it. It takes a long time, and a lot of practice to gain the necessary expertise, to get it right. Then, you will have better musical ideas, and the ability to play them. Perhaps they can be performed as improvisation. This experiment is for my own satisfaction and fulfillment, and that of other people. This is the beginning of the journey. Link: Spiritual Music on Fretless Guitar (Fretless Spiritual Music 1):
1994. Bodybuilder, Vintage Iris Print, 12x14 in., by: David Rapoport. Digital Art from black and white photography (scan). I used a Hasselblad 500C medium format camera, with Ilford HP5 ISO 400 black and white negative film, and a three-point lighting plan. The images were created with black and white prints on a flatbed scanner (Microtek). The effects were made on an Apple Quadra 840AV computer. It was one of the first machines for photography, and more resolute digital art. I had the remove the entire motherboard to install a 64mb RAM chip. This image was created with Adobe Photoshop 2.5 software. There might have been EFX plugins. The final print was made on a Vintage Digital Iris Printer, textured matte paper. There is a large drum, and the ink is sprayed on the paper as the drum rotates. The frame is custom, and it was made by the framer, right around the corner, with several other digital images. These were excellent days for artists.
2021. Panel Scan: Mixed Media, Scan: Archival Inkjet Print, 16.125x20.125 in., by: David Rapoport. There are so many parts to this particular work of art: for me, it is about placement, art supplies, and technology. Basically, this is a collage of paper and glue, on a panel. The art is essentially photo-based. Most of it happened by accident, so this was the risk I took. At the time that I made this series, I was inspired by the parts that completed this composition. It was something new for me.
2026. 2 Still Images of a Video (playing), Archival Inkjet Print, 7x10 in., by: David Rapoport. This is an old-style, vintage, flatscreen CRT TV (Sony Wega, Trinitron TV, 24 inches, 1994). It has awesome color, contrast, and the audio is quite good. There are 2 speakers in the front, and 2 in the back. I use mine for entertainment, personal, and also for art projects. I am a hobbyist. Also, I enjoy watching football on this TV, because of the audio: I enjoy the sound of the crowd.
